The building originated during the years of War War II and was called the Beach Store at Boundary Bay -- somewhat of a stretch of the imagination since the beach is nowhere in sight.
There were a number of owners, but it appears that the first owner, and probably the one for whom the store was built, was Vince McCarthy, of the McCarthys who were very involved in the development of Boundary Bay, from a real estate point of view.
The Nicholls, Ralph and Ruth, followed, owners about whom some sources spoke highly -- in particular about their delivery service. In the 1950s, the new owners were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Anderson. While they owned the store, the goods being sold expanded considerably beyond groceries and meats -- especially at Christmas time when they advertised that they carried a "large variety of sturdy mechanical and other toys suitable for children of all ages."
Over the years, owners and names came and went. In the 1970s, the store was called Boundary Bay Grocers and the owner was J. S. Fozzard. In the 2000s, the owner, David Lemon, experimented with something different and partnered with the Bay Area Gourmet restaurant.
