Arriving in Delta from Wiltshire, England in 1902 with his brother Mark, Sam Rawlins had earlier farmed on 34B Avenue and at Beach Grove, before purchasing these 20 acres, prior to the death of his first wife, Elsie, in 1927.

Sam Rawlins remarried the following year, a not uncommon practice when a man is left with a houseful of children to raise after the death of their mother. Frequently a second family followed, as in this case, where Sam's second wife bore him a son, Michael, and two daughters, Gladys and Dawn Gail. A significant addition to the size of the house was also made during this time period, probably in 1929.

Leila Wilson, described by some as a spitfire, was Sam Rawlins' second wife and after her husband's death in 1955, Leila moved to another house on this same street, and this Rawlins family home has been owned by various and sundry since then. Now it shows evidence of some charming additions, but is largely authentic.

As a matter of interest, Sam Rawlins was reputed to have made exceptional apple cider - and exceptional can be interpreted however the reader chooses.
